"Rotting" fuel lines

I just noticed that for the second time in as many years, my rubber fuel lines are getting cracked and are "rotting" a bit. Last time I had no idea until I was dribbling gas from holes in the lines coming off the pump.

So given I went down to the local NAPA store and bought fuel line, why am I having this problem? Seems to me that fuel line is fuel line isn't it? You'd not make them with some kind of rubber that would rot under normal auto conditions?

I recommend you ask for fuel injection line in the id you need. More expensive but lasta a Looooooot longer.

Aye, fuel injection line by all means.
