The MG sat a while. Months, actually. Last time I started it (two weeks back), there was some nasty "I won't idle anymore" comin' from it. Gave it a Round Tuit. Not our daily transporter, sooo...

Decided to light 'er up and decipher what the issue was. After trying to get it to temp, concluded the Weber was somehow misbehaving. Only revved on the accel pump circuit, wouldn't run otherwise. Kinda tellin' IYSWIM.

Pulled the carb off, opened it up to find some sort of ~jellied~ crap in the bottom of the float bowl. It would be hard to blame this on Stabil or SeaFoam... again: IMO the ethanol is at fault. In over forty years of fettlin' with carbs and induction, NEVER have I seen stuff like I've found in the last decade.


Now in process of rebuilding a DCOE, so roofing will be postponed. Ben can approach sans fear of actual <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">work</span></span>. :devilgrin:

I hear ya. The powdery stuff is what blows my mind.
 
One side-draught 40 DCOE on the MGB, Mark. TWO of 'em on all the other cars ('cept Diesela).

Schedule is fillin up quick. we gotta figure somthing. Maybe an evening get together? A bite of sumpin really bad for us, and a few CABs ...
 
Doc...toss that thing in a box and drive it over to the guy you met not long ago.....gives you an excuse to go there!! :laugh:
 
That's a thought. I'm kinda "work trapped" tho. If I don't have success with a few of the usual methods, it may happen.
 
Always good to see a guy getting his priorities straight. Roof?? Who needs to fix a roof?? Weber has to be done, MG has to run.... I HATE ethanol gas!!!!!! What a mess it causes. It is even worse when introduced to a car that never had it before... Instant clog.
 
There are NO E free ststions in Merry land as far as I know. I was speaking about old cars that have sat for a while. The ethanol removes everything from the tank and fuel lines.... What a mess. In fact I am working on one now. 76 XJ6 that has been off the road since 01. Stored pretty well, but the fuel system is fighting all the way.
 
Check with your boat supply stores. They may be able to refer you. A lot of boat owners in darn near every state(at least bordering an ocean) have concerns with the ethanol destroying their tanks, fuel systems, etc.. So more boatyards are offering ethanol free gas.
 
Good point, Ron. MANY of the boatyards down here are carefully offering non-E fuel.
 
around here, all the premium gas of whatever brand seems to be non-E - pricier but likely worth it
