Roller Throw Out Bearing

Country flag
Offline
Hi all,
Rebuilding a B and am looking for a new T/O bearing. Does anyone know of any roller bearing options. I have heard that BP has them, but i am not crazy about a plastic one. Can any one ease my mind on this?

I have also heard there is a "bad" batch of carbon fiber ones. Any suggestion on where to source a "good" one if there is no other option?

Thanks all

m

I will put in my two cents worth, seeing how your asking. Replace the carbon throw out bearing with a new carbon one from Moss or one of their distributors! The original carbon bearings have out lasted many owners, so why change. Many rollers have failed. Stick with the original style parts! As for Moss parts, they are on top of everything they sell and if there is a problem, their first up to correct it. Sometimes things get past them, but they appreciate a call from us to keep them in the know.
Funny how some people have a better idea how to make a car that's been around and still running for 30 to 50 years or more last longer. I'd like to see how long these high tech, highly improved tin cans that are being produced today fair in the next 30 or more years to come. JMHO. For what ever it's worth. Cheers! PJ

With ya, Paul. No chance a Prius, a Hyundai or many other of the "jelly-bean" things will make it to 30, let alone still have parts available.

There's nothing wrong with the plastic body roller bearing set up, I've heard Moss has a new roller set up, and B Hive can get you the good carbon ones.

I also prefer the carbon bearings as (until recently) I have never seen one wear prematurely, whereas several brand new ball bearing units have fried and required engine out re and re. Now with some suppliers apparently getting crappy carbon bearings, I suppose it can be a bit of a game of Russian Roulette.

I don't disagree that modern cars in 30 years MAY have some problems, but they will probably be electronic related. My 1988 Fiero is doing just fine so far, thank you.

Bill, How do you like the Solstice? I really like the looks of it. PJ

I like it a lot. I've done a few things to it, but it handles beautifully and runs 350 BHP out of the little 2 litre engine!

wow... I didn't know they made a Coupe version...

I've a 2010 Mitsu Ralliart that I'm squeezing 260HP to the wheels out of it's 2L engine. The turbo is too small to produce anymore than that. Currently thinking about obtaining a secondary OEM turbo to send in to get the internals uprated...

Ya oughta think about gettin' another MGB to have a second car, Rob. That MMmazda is gonna s c a t t e r!!!

oh been thinking about it... really, I have!

been thinking about a '75 so I can toss a supercharger on it, or maybe a rover v8...

I've been bitten by the "POWER!" bug and can't live w/o it :jester:

Well, they announced the coupe version about the same time they announced their bankruptcy, so they only made 1200 of them. I much prefer it to the convertible.

With larger turbos, people ar efairly easily getting in the high 400 WHP (at the wheels), close to 500 BHP out of these very rugged Ecotec engines. As I prefer to keep mine in one piece a long time, I settle for about 350 BHP - gets it just into the 12 second in the 1/4 range
