The Roadmaster - a 1968 MGB/GT with a Buick 455 big block and other spurious upgrades will be making an appearance at The Mitty at Road Atlanta later this month.
This is a "club project" car that began as a parking lot bet back in 2005. ("I'll bet that a Buick big block will fit in an MGB." - "I'll bet you it won't!")
Work began in earnest on this car in 2008 and is now in roadworthy condition. In addition to the Buick 455 engine, it has a BW T5 transmission, a Jaguar differential, an air bag front suspension, Fiero seats, an Advance Autowire harness, and other aftermarket upgrades.
We've been able to achieve an average of about 15.5 mpg on recent road trips in this car, which is currently residing in South Carolina.
Almost all parts and labour including paint and bodywork) has been donated to this project. BADASS (the British-American Deviant Automotive Sportscar Society) is a Not-For-Profit organization. After all who have donated time, money, effort, etc to this project have had the opportunity for some seat time, we plan on auctioning the car off and donating proceeds to charity.
The car will be participating in Hot Rod Magazine's "Power Tour" early this summer; will be going to Palestine, TX for BritishV8 2012; and should be seen at the UML Summer Party in August.
