Has anyone inventoried the number, location and type of rivets needed to complete the assembly of the shrouds to the tub, the rubber buffers and seals, the grill brackets, the carb heatshield, and etc? As I approach final assembly I want to insure that I have accounted for everything. Thanks.

Depending on the goals of your restoration, you have some options.

John Loftus recently posted about the hand bucked rivets (and tool required to replicate them) for the rear shroud's lower lip. John is seeking full concours standard for his restoration.

For my car in that same area, I chose to use round-head "cherry" pop-rivets from the aircraft industry (expensive little suckers).

Perhaps John will share his research on the subject of rivets, for the benefit of others seeking strictly as built factory specs.

Hi Lin,

I have purchase most my rivets from British Car Specialists (www.britishcarspecialists.com). I have pictures of the rivet squeezer used on the rear shroud at the following site (on page 4)

restoration

For the aluminum body rivets, they sell a package of 50 which is plenty. The other rivets on the car that I can think of are the heat shield rivets (6 on the BJ7), engine tag rivets (2), valve cover badge rivets(4), split rivets for all the rubber buffers (this will vary on model, mine had 4 inner fender, 4 around the bonnet opening, 2 for the roll down window stops, and perhaps used on your door seals?), the windshield pillars have multiple brazier head, round head and flush rivets to assemble. If you are rechroming your outer door handles they assemble with rivets, and various pop rivets for the body shroud attachment, front grille brackets, drain channel under the U trim, etc. I would also suggest the Mechanical Service Parts List for your model to help put it all back together.

Cheers,
John
