Fred Espenak passed away on Sunday, June 1st. The average person may never have heard of Mr Espenak, but anyone who has had more than a passing interest in eclipses will surely recognize the name.

I stumbled upon Mr Espenak serendipitously about 10 years ago as I was researching information to help me photograph the total solar eclipse of August 2017. I don't think I could have captured and processed my eclipse pictures without some of the things I learned from Fred's tutorials and information he provided. There are lot of "how to" videos out there regarding eclipses, but when I stumbled upon a video lecture on Eclipses by Fred, I knew "this guy knows his stuff!"

Godspeed, Fred Espenak.

Yours truly at a family friend's ranch in Wyoming as I photographed the August 2017 total eclipse of the sun.
