Bill Russell has died today of natural causes, he wad 88. He really was one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and had more championship rings than fingers. Today has been a rough one.

A legend and great man (both on an off the court). Was a bit moody... and my 3 encounters with him were of the moody side (one time golfing in a four-some with him in Seattle), but I knew to not engage because he likes to keep to himself. Terrific laugh.

As a Boston guy I've been lucky to see the greatest Celtics play. Russell was at the top. He suffered racial discrimination here in Boston and it sometimes made for a less than perfect relationship with the fans. He had a real presence and was a great ambassador for the sport. He'll be missed and as one who idolized him as a kid it will hurt to not see him around.
