Ring and pinion question...

As some of you might know, i'm the owner of a GT6 V8. The last owner put very steep gears in it and I want to swap them out for something a lil more streetable.

In Victoria British I found a set of 3.27:1 gears that I thought would be perfect for my car.

They only advertise them for Spitfires.

My question to the experts is will it work in my GT6 differential?

Thanks in advance guys, I really need the help on this one!

Almost forgot to ask... does it matter to the ring and pinion if the rear end is posi or not?

Thanks...

Hey CJ, that GT8 sounds like a rocket sled and tons of fun. But, I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for any Spit or GT6 differential that's plugged into 300 HP. They're just not designed to handle that kind of torque.

If it were my GT8, I'd be looking for a Datsun diff (lots of examples on the web), a Quaife setup, or something more robust. This way, you can enjoy all of the power without having to worry about being hit by flying shapnel from your exploding diff.

Send us some photos of your car, and be sure to keep us informed of your diff decision.

Heck, I'm just wondering how to get 140 HP!

Subaru makes a nice LSD rear end that is very similar to the Datsun 510 one.

Yeah this car is an absolute BLAST to drive hehe. The funny thing is that the car was built 22 years ago and was driven daily in town for most of those years.... I think the only thing saving that rearend is that it's go so much power that if you lay into it it only spins the back tires. If you just floor it from a deadstop it'll go through all three gears and you'll creep forward about 5 miles an hour with the speedo at 90 mph. I swear this car is just about indestructable hehe. I love it and am looking forward to the restoration part of it.

The only reason I need to find out if those gears will work is because i'm out of a daily driver when it rains (TR6 is only legal car at the moment for the past two years)... and I need something with a hardtop like the GT6 to drive but lack the mechanical know how and patience and more importantly funds to do a full rear suspension swap. I don't mind sacrificing burn outs and full performance take offs to save the rear if it means I can drive it comfortably down the highway for cheap.

If somebody out there would volunteer to put up some photos for me I wouldn't mind emailing them to someone.

Thanks alot guys, I love this forum...
