giday boys

i was just browsing (as i quite oftern do) through a melbourne site with used automotive parts when i found what looks like ripoff MINILITES

Speed Star rims 16x7.5

Just what ive been looking for. a lower profile rim with a vintage look + without the VINTAGE pricetag.

I'm going to try them on first...
im hoping they will fit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

do u recon 7.5" will be pushing the width of the MGB walls?
If not i might get my panel beater to slightly modify the guards and whack em on.

Either way guys
Wish me luck

Rim width isn't important. What matters is offset and tire width. A 7.5" rim should fit fine provided the other two issues are addressed.

If I'm not mistaken, a 205 tire is the minimum you will fit on a 7.5" rim. You may or may not get tire rub depending on how straight your partcular chassis is. I would definatley recommend Poly bushings all around, and perhaps a panhard rod if necessary. Some people have installed 205 tires on a stock car with no problems but this is rare, and mostly on early cars.

I went and tried them on...
Didnt look too bad

The tires were set up for drifting and had a set of 205 STREEEEETCHED over the 7.5 inch rim (stops wall flex or something i think)

they fit but the offset was all wrong, would have had to have fairly big spacers on the rears, and they would have only JUST grabed the nuts so i thought id be safe and keep on looking.

Those tires aren't stretched. They just have small sidewalls, which does decrease wall flex and in turn gives better traction. When you go around a turn, the walls will flex from the lateral forces acting on the tire, making the tire actually bend from side to side. Short side walls can't flex as much as tall ones can.

If you're looking for rims like that, which do look good on MG Bs, why not check out Panasports or Mini-lites? I've got Mini-Lites on my TR6, and they really are MUCH lighter than the stock TR6 rims, and they look great. I love 'em.

I found this place on eBay that sells a 'wide' selection of sizes of 'Performance SUPERLITE Wheels'. The wheels look alot like 'MiniLite' wheels. They have sizes ranging from 10x5 to 16x7 and in 3 different colors too ("Classic", Platinum silver, and polished). Prices don't seem too bad for a set of 4. Their site says the wheels are made in Australia... so, it might be worth looking into.

Move the steering wheel to the left hand side of the car?
