This shouldn't be too hard: I'm looking for a set of 8" brake shoes either with or without drums for a Riley 1.5 or a Wolsey 1500. Condition of brake shoe linings is unimportant.
it sounds as if you are not aware that Riley 1.5 and Wolseley 1500 front brakes are not the same, I seem to remember that they are even made by different manufacturers. (The Rileys are wider)
I do not know about the front brakes being different and will take your word for it. In any case I should have said that I am looking for the REAR 8" brakes for these cars which so far as I know both had the same axle. BTW this is for an Elva Courier which used the so-called "Riley 1.5" axle. BTW one of the shoes that I currently have is stamped "Lockheed" though the others are not.
In any case thanks for your assistance and if you should know of where I can get a set of these shoes (frames) suitable for relining please let me know.
Call Octagon in Vancouver - 604-253-4145 and ask for Dave - they should be able to fix you up with relined shoes if you have cores and might be able to find cores if you haven't got anything (distant memory says that there was a Cortina shoe that interchanges, but it's been years since I owned a 1.5)
You may be able to source Austin Marina 8" drums and redrill for your bolt pattern if you haven't got decent drums.
I talked with Peter at Worldwide today--he told me that someone recently purchased his entire Marina brake stock but is sending me a set of Saab Sonnett 8" drums on approval--They were made by Lockheed and he thinks they will fit.
Finding obscure parts is really interesting--I use Nissan Alfin drums on my front 9" brakes, but they are easy to get at any parts store.
Michael- you will appreciate then my restoration project Dart will have (on the rear) Sonata rotors inside Festiva calipers & Spitfire pads on the E brake. All this on the Scarebird conversion for the MGB rear axle. Jack M thinks this will make parts a little easier to find.
Makes sense to me! I'm considering converting both front and back brakes to Nissan 9" over present 9" front and 8" rear--not so much a performance upgrade as an availability/uniformity one! I know it may seem strange to not upgrade to discs but I want to stay vintage-legal.
