TR6 Rheostat TR6 - won't come off

I've been trying to pull of the rheostat knob and man, it just won't budge. Everyone says it just pulls off, but mine doesn't. I don't want to crack the dash by prying it off with a screwdriver or pliers. Any suggestions?
 
I had the exact same problem when I was redoing my dash last year. I ended up trashing it because the only way I could get it off was with pliers. I still need to get a new knob which is like $4 I think.

Since I was planning on replacing the dash, I wasn't concerned about the way I got it off.

Moss has them for $3.85...
 
Isn't there a nut on the backside of the whole rheostat so you can take it out? If so, take it out and check for a small screw, pin, or some other holding device. If it doesn't have any of those, and it won't unscrew, just trash it.
 
It is a slider knob, and is not at all easy to get off. Dash damage is a problem. Good luck.
 
Thanks everyone. I somehow knew I might have to trash the dash. I'll keep trying.

I JUST LOOKED AT A SPARE RHEOSTAT THAT I HAVE. SIMILAR TO THE OTHER DASH KNOBS THERE IS A "PIN" THAT HOLDS THE KNOB ONTO THE SHAFT OF THE CONTROL AND IS LOCATED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE KNOB. THE PIN IS ACTUATED BY A SPRING; THE BEST WAY TO GET THE KNOB OFF IS TO PUSH IN THE "PIN" WITH AN AWL OR SMALL SCREW DRIVER. WHILE PUSHING IN ON THE "PIN" PULL STRAIGHT OUT ON THE KNOB. THIS WILL WORK UNLESS THE "PIN" IS CORRODED WITH RUST AND WON'T PUSH IN. GOOD LUCK, I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU.
