reverse switch on transmission

Where doe the reverse light switch go on a 1969 sprite transmission. All the ports are plugged. I have no clue where it goes. Pics are always helpful.

Top of the shifter housing, right side, facing forward. Pigtails are soldered to the switch (unless they are missing) I can send pix if needed. If the trans is out of an earlier car, you may not have one.

I do not have the plug on the front in front of the transmission. Does that mean there is no reverse lights. I have the lights on the car and there are the wires in the harness.
This car was an unmolested barn find. Was put in the barn in 1971. I do not think the trans was ever replaced.

What are the plugs in the back of the shifter for?

Consider a manual switch. I get along fine without the back up lights on early cars. i carry a small flashlight on the parcel shelf for the very few times I need to see behind me.

That gearbox is not original to a '71. There isn't a reverse switch on that remote shift housing (see pic "Whitephrog" posted) You can however swap the remote shifthousing from a later gearbox.

The plug you removed is the reverse selector detent plug.

Yes. Reverse lights were added September '67; operated by gearbox mounted switch.
 
Didn't Mike Miller say he had a bunch of ribcase cores? He might have a late model housing that he could swap for a nominal fee.
