Reverse gear some times does not work

We are driving a 1970 MGB with a later style OD unit. When we stop some times it is like the OD disingages and there is no reverse. Is there a adjustment to the OD unit or does the OD need to be in direct drive for reverse to work?

Should be electrically isolated in all but third and fourth. Off another forum:
"There is an isolator switch oc the gearshift linkage which only allows overdrive in 3rd & 4th. The switch arrangement also prevents o/d engagment in reverse gear.(sudden death for o/d unit). When down shifting into second the o/d is automatically disengaged and when upshifting back into 3rd will re engage unless the stalk switch is used."

You do NOT want to be in OD and reverse at the same time.

If you deselect the OD, does reverse work okay?

Sometimes later O/Ds stick in O/D and do not just disengage when you are not in 3rd or 4th. I would try warming it up and then changing the oil. Quantum Mechanics recommends 30 non detergent motor oil as the factory did. If that does not work it might be worth a call to John at Quantum. Bob
