1974 MGB-GT V8 [Reunited]

I gave up on the possibility of getting back my first British car a 1969 MGB-GT. I did however decide to hunt down and purchase back a unique 1974 MGB-GT I bought in 1994 a few years after selling my 69. I found pictures I had in an album of what happened from 1981 up to now. I bought the car as a non-runner but with a few minutes, can of gas and two kids monkeying around had it running flawlessly! I stripped the car down to a roller. I had a gentleman from England do new rockers, lower quarters and floors. That was in 1998. I then sold the project to a friend. I managed to after a few emails persuade him to sell it back to me. Now the fun part is the fact I lost the title and never passed it on. Im sure I can do some digging and get it taken care of. So the question is stock or Rover V8???

Congrats on getting the old car back. What sort of condition is it in now? I'd image that if you never officially transferred the title that your local DMV should be able to get you a copy.

As for the engine choice, well I'm a bit of a purist so were it my car I'd stay with the B-series engine (well tuned or maybe with a supercharger). But that's just me, this is your car so do what makes you happy. :encouragement:

As for a swap, I've got a friend doing a GM V6/5-speed conversion on his '71 B. Mickey here did the same on a GT of his. About as bolt-in as a conversion gets, fits nicely, and plenty of power (and FI if you want it).
 
The interior is stripped, no fenders, have good used and one new, everything else as it was when I let it go! Should be a minor strip down and since the rust work is down all down hill except paint! I wish it was Black Tulip but Aconite is nice with the tan interior.

Can you believe this GT in 1981 had.......THREE Miles on it? It sat on the dealer lot that long and must have been ignored all because of that color......Aconit aka Purple! The plan is a Rover 3.5 which I have 4 of them; (2) Rover 3500s and (2) TR8 mated to a nice 10,000 mile R380. I got my hands on a nice set of really low mileage Rover 4.0/4.6 heads to drop the compression down from 10.5:1. What is nice about the early 3500 rover V8s are they were almost the same drop in engine the factory GTV8s used. I get the front slim crank & water pump pullies, alternator bracket and starter. The cool old style Rover valve covers too! This is to be besides the V8 badges like the factory cars stock appearing on the exterior and interior. The engine bay will be standard. No chrome or tons of braided hoses. It will be kept simple!
 
Well, since you're going with the V8, why go with Aconite, if you prefer the Black Tulip? (Which is what we have on our '73 roadster, and looks fantastic!) At least, that's what I gathered from your earlier post.

To me, the Black Tulip is a richer color than the Aconite.
 
I found that Black Tulip was a one year color, 73 and I think Aconite is also a one year color, 74 and I love them both. I just like the fact that it is different. I do feel that in keeping with the original color it has some heritage. The fun part is putting all the part back on after body is sprayed and not touching a MGB since I stripped it in 199 something is going to be a real event! I contacted the previous owner who is 77 in Florida and she has a copy of the title with my name on it as the buyer so problem solved!
