Restoring rostyles.

Has anyone had their rostyles media or sand blasted and powder coated?? If so, what was the approximate cost?

Or, did you use another method with success?

Mine need a bit of restoring, wondering what's involved. I'm considering powder coating, then maybe masking them off and painting the black portion myself. Has anyone done this?

Just wondering about the experience of others here. Thanks for the input!

No idea on the cost - I just media blasted them myself with a friend's blaster. Then painted with Duplicolor wheel paint silver and inserts with duplicolor wheel paint graphite (I like the look better than black) then clear coated. Total investment about $25 and I think they look fine. Masking is easier than I thought. I just used blue painters tape. There are small grooves in the wheels outlining the shape. I masked over and then cut the shape with an X-acto knife using the groove as a guide. Some corners I had to freehand but it wasn't hard at all. When the tape came off I had to touch up a couple of corners but was very pleased anyway.

It's a job I was intimidated by and therefore put off but actually was happy with the results and surprised at the ease.

I also painted the inside of the rims while they were off.

Sounds good, JP. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll give it a whirl!

Oy, it's a lotta work getting ready for the car show season, ain't it???

I took all mine off earlier this year and brought them back to life. I got a piece of heavy cardboard and cut out a circle in it the size of the outer edge of the rim then placed it over the tire. Sanded everything down as best as I could where there was a bit of surface rust showing. I sprayed them with a nice silver metallic spray which was a rustoleum product then went back and finished the black area's with a small painters brush. It probably would have been a little easier to mask them off and spray them but with the brush it came out real nice. Rustoleum has a nice clear I applied a few coats of and they look like new again.

I've always used the masking tape/X-acto method, even did a set on my brother's MGB-GT using the body color (Ford/Lincoln burgundy poly) as a replacement for the black. It looked *really* nice when finished.
