After the car being down since mid-September for irritating little repairs, it's back on the road. Three days in the basement with fuel in the carbs and my house does not stink! I had plans tonight that fell through, the wife and kid are out and about, so I went for a ride. It's a clear, dry, 30 degrees outside, so I put on the ski gear and went out. Three hours and 150 miles later I remember why I have this car. I got waved at and thumbs-upped the entire time! I drove some nice, windy Smoky Mountian roads, just listening to the new Bell stainless exhaust breaking in. My wife says the car needs a radio - she's nuts. I missed driving in Fall, I won't miss Spring.

Way to go, I thought for a while it might be 36thbdaytr6, just kidding, you did better than most, congrats. Wayne

Spoken like a true British car nut, Your hooked. There is something about these cars that is appreciated by drivers & spectators.
My first car was a 1969 TR6 I bought in H.S. Over the years I have had lots of fun sports cars. When I hit my late forties I had decided to get another sports car after a 15 year absence of a personal toy & it wasn't even a thought, it was going to be another TR6.
I think we all have shared in your description of an early morning or summer evening drive that leaves you with a smirk on your face that only these cars can provide. They have a character all their own that is unique in the automotive world.

Isn't a brisk winter cruise in a topless sports car great? The 1st winter I had the spitfire it had no top on it and it was my daily driver so I had no choice. Gloves, down coat, stocking hat and all I was off to work in NW Montana.

Those of you who park their cars in winter are missing out on a great thrill.

Congratulations on getting the 6 back on the road. I think some of you guys actually get to enjoy your cars a little more than I do. I drive my spitfire pretty much everyday 365 days a year, unless it is down for some minor repair for a day or sometimes even two. I think that if I had to put it in storage for a few months a year because it was too cold or they salted the roads, I'd probably appreciate it even more. Well enjoy your nice days when you can get your Triumph on the road.

I agree. I believe driving these cars 3 or 4 months out of 12 is a waste of fun & does a diservice to the car. Of cousre if you have restored a show car this wouldn't apply.
Out here in Eastern L.I. New York, we still have winter die hards that gather every sunday, weather permitting, no rain or snow, to talk cars in the great outdoors. Sure it's 20 deg's, but when you see 100-150 cars there & everyone hungry to enjoy each others automotive expieriances the cold doesn't seem so bad.
You got me beat on driving with the top down, I discovered a while ago my car had a top that goes up & down & a heater

I hate having to park my car for the winter! Some of my best LBC stories involve below freezing temps and or snow. Hmmm.. Maybe that deserves a post of its own. It kills me to have to go out and stare at it in the garage. The cold wouldn't stop me But they salt our roads like they're a bland plate of food /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. It's terrible on cars. I work on cars for a living and I deal daily with the results of a N.Y. winter(the finger lakes region is home to several MAJOR salt mines). There is no way I'd do that to my TR. I plan on keeping it for a long time, and it's rusty enough already. It does go out for a mid winter stretch or two if we get a warm spell and it rains. Other than that I drive it till they salt, then park it till the first good spring rain. I have to rely on mv Honda Civic to carry me through the slushy months. It's not the same, but it will take a corner and i don't care if it rots out. I gotta move south!
