Giday guys.

Just thought i'd update you all on whats happenin in my end of the woods.

It's 11.20pm here in melbourne, and tonight was my last night driving the mg for a while. Too bad i couldnt slam the heck out of it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anyways, tomorrow during the day I'm driving it up to my dads place in bendigo (about 100k's or so north) We'r gonna park it there for a while until he has some space to begin working on it in his sheds.

(My dad has offered to help me with the engine rebuild.My dad is the owner of a spa business which he runs out of his home and has several large sheds full of spa related stuff... anyways, hes got a pulley type lift doohicky setup he made for lifting spa's off the ground, lifting em on trucks and tilting them sideways to work on them. He recons pulling the mg engine with that rig would be rather easy as he's pulled a v8 with it.)

My dad is a little hesitant to work on the rebuild as its been a fair while since he has worked on the internals of a car. Anyways my uncle (his brother) is a mechanical engineer, so if we have any big dramas advice is only a phone call away... It's gonna be a fair while til its back on the road i think, knowing my dad and how cautious he is. Geez, prob next year we'll be done setting up the lift mechanism /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Anywho, driving the mg around in the rain gets rather frustrating actually, prob a good time to do it i guess. I just hope it doesnt push too much into summer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Anywho.

Hey Jarrod, Goodluck with the rebuild, take your time, do it right, don't overlook the little details and you'll be way ahead and glad you did years from now when your still diving around with the same engine! MACK
 
You are going to have some fun. Removing the engine shouldn't take more than a afternoon of work and that was pretty much the hardest part other than cam bearings. Rest is pretty simple and once you figure out where you stand on wear inside the engine the rebuild goes really quick. From start to finish it took about 3 weeks to rebuild mine. A day to strip the engine down a week in the machine shop for hot tanking and head work. Another week waiting for UPS to get off there butt and deliver my parts and about a day to put it all back together and paint it.

While your engine and transmission is out you might want to just go ahead and change your clutch as well. Also expect to replace all your engine mounts and transmission mounts as mine after 30 years either fell apart on removal or were very spongy and about 3 times normal size after being covered in oil for all those years.

Best to do it before it dies on you out on the road, at least it's still winter. Fingers crossed for a quick rebuild.

Hi guys,

I dropped it off there yesturday, drove back to melbourne midnight last night in the yellow eye sore. My dads is doing a compression test tomorrow sometime, he'll let me know what the figures are, ill pass on to you guys.

Also, i was speaking to my male family members, no1 is sure how the bottom end is lubricated. My pop recons that the underneight cyl walls are lubed by splashup from the sump, then the oil ring on the piston drags it up the cylinder.
Is this correct?

Im really not knowledgable on the lubrication part of engines and it seems no1 that i know is sure either.

Bruce, bendigo is situated smack bang in the middle of victoria, so sorry mate theres no ocean fishing around there, but there may be a few puddles left in what used to be lakes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif We'r havin a pretty serious drought over here in aus atm.

Tony, the rims off my B are 15" Sigma rims, they came from the factory with what i think is the turbo model. will have a look around for some pics on the sigma...
