ever since I purchased my TR6 now almost 3 years ago, wow time is flying by! I have always had the problem of the turn signal not cancelling when I made a right turn, it would cancel on a left turn, Yesterday I finally decided to figure out the problem, when I pulled the steering wheel off the cancel thing on the steering shaft was orintated to around 2 o clock, pulling the hayes manual out I couldnt find where it was suppose to be. I decided after pondering for about 2 beers that is should be at 9 o clock, right between the turn signal things. once that was set I had to take the rubber u joint for lack of a better word, take the spline connection off and reorient it and put it back together without moving the steering wheel, so far seems to be working, I was just wondering if I did it correctly

Yup.

Oooh... Gonna have to get Ian to take a look at my car now. I have the same problem with my Spit.

Small rant: Who was the genious that decided to locate the Spitfire's turn signal indicator light on the dashboard so that it's completely hidden from view by the steering wheel? I drive around quite a bit with my turn signal on because it didn't cancel after I finished my turn, and a I can't see the light flashing away at me. End rant.

Note to self... move that light a bit that when we make the new dashboard...

Hondo,
I just had mine out while installing Art Lipp's Delrin column bushings so here's a good picture of its orientation.

There's a few other pictures of the work here: https://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/SteeringColumn.htm

And for minor adjustments, you do not have to undo the entire shaft, you can loosen the clamp bolts by the rubber coupler and turn the wheel one way or the other, which will provide you with a few degrees of movement.

Robyn- Any chance it has to do with how tall you are with respect to seat placement and camber?

I suppose anything is possible, but I'm 5'-10" so I'm probably a pretty average height compared to other Spit drivers. When I hold the wheel at 10 and 2, or even 9 and 3, I have to lean left or right to see that light. Sitting up taller or scrunching down into the seat, doesn't improve anything.

Robyn: Go to Auto Zone or Pep Boys and buy a cheap 12 volt buzzer and wire it across the flasher. They are small enough to hide someplace behind the dash Now when you turn on the turn signal you will get a beep. I had the same problem with the 250 but added the buzzer. Now I know if I forgot to cancel the turn signal because I can hear the buzzer.

Hondo,
If you decide to do the steering column bushings, I'd recommend the Delrin bushings that Art Lipp sells. They're much easier to install as they tap in with no need to remove the old bushings. I just installed them and there's no vertical or horizontal movement in my column at all. you can see the process here:

The only other thing is that when you disassemble your column, you'll probably find that the rubber coupling is split and needs replacement too.
