Resetting a speedometer

I received my replacement speedo from Tony and I'm trying to figure out the best way to reset the mileage other than using a drill to spin the gear's. Anyone have any ideas?

Did I get close to the mileage you wanted?

Pretty close. Just need to shave about 30k off it or add 30k to it. I haven’t decided if I'm going to start at 0 again or at the approximate mileage of the car.

0 mile car deserves 0 mile speedo!

So, take the back can off and turn the numbers you wish, as I remember they only turn one way.

noooo. Be gentle! That's the "newer" (smaller O.D.) clock, right? There should be a way to disengage the detent and worm gear and roll the wheels to where your other one was. Not certain as I've only had one or two of those apart, long ago. Older ones are easier if I recall correctly.

Doc--Isn't there small detents that engage a gear? I seem to remember lifting the detent GENTLY with a small screw driver and turn the drums.

Jeweler's screwdriver. Yep.

Its from a '75-'76

"Little" one then. Detents still should be accessable, IIRC.

That is the correct thing to do. Mark the box, that way they can't say you are trying to defraud anyone.

I really don't think he's ever planning on selling it, guys.

I'm sure it's highly illegal if your trying to lower the actual milege of the car. The speedo currently in my B has frozen at 46600 so it has to be replaced/repaired. When I do get around to changing it I'm sure there will be a form or two I will have to fill out at the dmv.

Where exactly do I need to place the small screwdriver to reset the drums? I do see a hole in the black gear on the left side that does line up to some white gears.

Uh no no way I'm going to sell it. It's been in the family as long as I have. I'm the 3rd generation to own it and I hope that one day I can pass it down. But thats going to be after I can no longer drive it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
