...depressing. No way to get further than 11 Mile Road. This is gonna be a mess.

And the thing wasn't as big as it could have been.

Storm surge was pretty big though. Next time you hear ZZ Top's Balinese, tip a brew in remembrance, as it was wiped out completely.

Houston downtown looks messy, but it mostly looked like blown out windows. Don't have all the reports on flooding yet, so could be worse in the southeast Houston areas too. I10 is a river, completely impassable in the city.

We just missed the eye as it headed east of us, but the night was pretty loud. Only trees appear to be victims around us which is good.

Glad you made it through (apparently) OK.

My son sent this to me. His comment was "Not much traffic on highway 288 this afternoon" Note the car roof in the center of the picture.

I've talked to my daughter who lives in Cypress a couple of times today. They are without power and expect to be for some time, but that is the worst of it. They lost a section of their fence and a couple of shingles off the roof. Best part of it is that she drug a mattress into the walkin closet and slept thru the worst of it. Doesn't look like she'll be teaching school anytime soon though.

Don't forget Plaquemines Parrish, LA down on the coast below NO - they've suffered worse damage to flooding than during Katrina!!

My daughter moved to Houston two weeks ago for her new job. She spent the night at a hurricane party with her boss & a couple workmates & their families. Lots of mess- lost shingles, torn up shrubs and the odd tree down; but they all came thorugh OK. Her apartment and car were undamaged, and she still has electricity. She's had an eventful first two weeks there....
