You'll still have the worn part (housing, bush, spindle, etc.). If you'r not concerned about originality, why not put a new distributor in? A couple years ago, I fitted a Mallory dual-point, but they too offer an electronic version.
I recently upgraded that with an MSD 6AL-2 ingition control (requiring the use of only a single points set as the trigger). Running Weber 45 DCOEs, this has been a substantial improvement in low-speed drivability!

There sure is a dizzying array of choices these days. :laugh:
Flamethrower full dizzy.
Ignitors 1 and 2 (3 might even work for our cars too)
123 ignition
Mallory, both the uni-lite and the dual point.
I have the dual point with an ignitor replacing the points.

Can you still use the cable driven tach with the above mentioned updates?? That is the reason I have shyed away from changing my distributor.
I am currently using the stock drive with pertronic magnetic points. They seem ok but other than not having to adjust them I haven't really noticed any difference from the stock points performance wise.

If the Tach is mechanically driven then the distributor has no impact on its performance at all.---Keoke--
That is the reason I have shyed away from changing my distributor. No reason to do that.
