TR6 Replacing Horn insert in steering column

Greetings all,
I am attempting to replace the piece inside the steering column that has the brass strip in it. The brass strip closes the circuit when you press on the horn button. I can't figure out how to remove it without damaging the steering column housing. I am posting a photo. Ideas and suggestions will be appreciated. If you look closely at the photo, I am pointing at what I believe is a retaining ring, but I can't remove it. horn.jpg
Thanks!!!

Take a screwdriver and gently pry up the two tabs up at 12 and 6 o'clock that are holding the round brass plate inside the column. You should then be able to remove the ring.

Hope this helps...

Many thanks! I started to pry the tabs but they were bending instead of popping out so I wasn't sure. I will try again. I have the Bentley service manual and it doesn't show how to remove it. I appreciate the link to the TR6 Workshop manual.

I believe that the backing plate with the brass ring come as a single unit. Replacement of the whole unit is the best option.

Elliot, were you able to reuse the two retaining rings?
As I recall just bending up the two metal tabs allowed the ring to come out. I don't remember taking out the retaining ring. I did it quite some time ago so......

Success!!! I have it replaced thanks to you guys. I was looking to large by trying to remove the ring around the inside of the steering column. All I needed to do was lift the two small tabs. All done!

Great... glad you got it out.
