Hey all,
Quick question - replacing the cork valve cover gasket on
my BJ8 and was wondering if I should use some type of
gasket adhesive in addition to a new gasket ?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

just glue it to the cover or the head, but not both, makes installing an de-installing a lot easier and you can greatly extend the life of the gasket past one valve adjustment.

Permatx gasket sealer works well.

Hope that helps.

I've used 3-M spray adhesive(its clear) &apply it to the v/cover & corresponding side of gasket. Stuff works great& won't allow movement. Also if gasket appears a bit small, soaking in a sink of hot water helps. For me its always worked better than silicone,it won't slip out. cheers Genos2

Yes that is a good product to use here. However what ever product is used place it on both sides of the gasket:

1] Glue the gasket to the cover and place on a flat surface to tack up.
2] Spread a thin bead on the exposed side of the gasket and carefully put in place.
3] tighten cover fasteners finger tight unit sealer tacks up then snug them down.

Note if the gasket is too large mostly my experience. Prior to installation cut diagonal slices in it where the cover stiffeners are one at the front the other at the rear. Glue the ends together with super glue.-------KEOKE
