General MG Replacing capillary tube

Hello members,

I have question regarding the dual gauge. On the web I have found a diy-guide in re-filling the tube with ether, so that is not my question.

What I want to know - and maybe someone has a source - is, where I can buy a new capillary tube, that works a perfect replacement in size and lenght.

I already searched the web but didn´t find a parts store offering it, so I am happy for any recommendations, that are not too expensive.

Best,
Wolf

Wolf,
Welcome to the forum! Give us a little more information on what year and model car and what style gauge. Some of us have old gauges and parts that might be just what you need.

Hello Rut,

no problem.

It is about a dual gauge (temp/oil) Smiths for an MG Midget, but a general question also as they seem to me all the same no matter if MGB or Midget. It seems there is no commercial provider selling only tubes & cables?

Best,
Wolf

You might consider contacting one of the companies that repairs Smith gauges. If they don't sell those parts, they may steer you in the right direction. I used Nisonger to repair my MGB speedometer. https://nisonger.com/index.htm

Wolf,
The reason I asked is to narrow down which gauge...now that I know it's a Midget I might have a gauge out of a '73 that you can have for postage. Once I return home I can test it (if I can find it) for function before shipping.

Dear Rut,

thank you - thats very kind of you!

Please contact me off-list if you found your gauge.

Best,
Wolf

Wolf,
tested the gauge in hot water and everything works...the oil pressure side worked previously, so I'm confident it's good. Pm your shipping info and take it to the post office and verify shipping costs.

Try JB industries inc on the web for tubing.

Wolf,
Gauge is on its way, first class mail! PM won't allow pictures (i may not know how), so I've posted the info here. Please let me know once you receive the pkg.

Thank you very much - I just sent the money!

Wolfgang,
Received the payment and hope this helps you repair your Midget! Please stay on the forum and post pictures of your car as you work on it. The Spridget forum on BCF will offer you more Midget expertise than the MGB forum, but many of us cross over since we own multiple cars. Good luck, Rut
