TR4/4A ??Replacement TR4 Aluminum Cockpit Surround Trim??

Does anyone know where to get Replacement TR4 Aluminum Cockpit Surround Trim? I would even look at the chrome version if that's the only option. Mine is rather beat up and I've straightened it as best I can but new sure would be nice since my car is IMO show worthy. I had seen a company in England had tooled up to do the grille and thought they were going to tool for this trim as well but I can't seem to find them through searching.

I only know of the occassional ebay sale. Typically hard to come by, maybe $50-$100 for a set. Chrome version is actually harder to come by and will set you back a lot more money. If you do hear of a source, please let me know as well!

I searched for quite sometime for a set to convert my TR6 over to the TR4 top (wanted a minimal, completely removeable top) but found no suppliers of replacement pieces on either side of the pond. I ended up buying three sets off eBay from two different sellers to make one above average set. Paid $75 for one set and $130 for the other two sets. Have not fully identified if I'm going to use them but I will still need to have them professionally buffed out (aluminum).

Hi,

Not trying to hijack this thread, but a closely related issue when talking about these trim pieces is bright or "chrome" anodizing on aluminum. At least I think that's the correct term for the process Triumph originally used.

With my TR4 I've got a set of the cockpit trim (in storage, not currently using it due to a surrey top installation), plus windshield capping, the grill and maybe a few other smaller alu pieces elsewhere that I'm forgetting. All are in reasonably good condition, but have some scratches and maybe a minor dent or two that could be straightened easily *if* the finish replicated.

Has anyone ever had any of these pieces restored and had the chrome-like anodizing redone? Do you know the process? I'm guessing the old anodizing might be removed with something like Easy Off Oven Cleaner (Here I'm assuming it's the same process as color anodizing, which I've removed with that nasty cleaner to leave bare aluminum.)

I've never seen the chrome pieces in person, so I had assumed they were actually stouter chrome steel instead of anodized aluminum. Sounds like they are even more rare and fragile than the normal aluminum pieces in that case. I think I'll cross them off my wish list (unless someone has a few pristine spares!).

I can't picture the trim you are referring to, but there is a company in Toronto where a friend of mine took his Healey 100 cockpit trim for refinishing. Fantastic job. If similar, I can get the info and forward it to you. The Healey has a satin aluminum finish, but they can probably do others.

Info on the Toronto shop would be appreciated. That's not too far from Ohio. Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

Please check you PM's again. I've resent the information.
