Replacement timing set

Does anyone out there have recent experience with replacement timing sets for a '74 TR6? I don't want the costly vernier type because I don't anticipate opening things up to modify the cam set up. I ordered and received the hardened double sprocket set and was very discouraged by the apparent low quality of the metal work on the gears and do not want to install this set. Also wonder about the advisability of using the chain with the open link in it -has anyone had problems with this item? Certainly hate to get this far along in a complete engine rebuild and then trash it all with a poor quality timing set!I am going with the Goodparts GP2 cam with 9.0-1 compression and the lightweight flywheel if that affects the recommendations.
Thanks

I am not looking to bash anyone but when I talked to the owner he was pretty much " that's the way they are" . It looks to me (and my mech with 30+ yrs experience) like the piece was used-wear and chain shadow around the teeth. On the other hand the cam looked great. When told that I wasn't comfortable putting that set in the car he said maybe I should get one somewhere else.

Reason I asked, is so I can avoid the same difficulty...

I don't think it is bashing when you relay your experiences on money you spend and parts are not what they should be.

Bashing would be like opening the package three years from now and complaining because there is surface rust on the gears....
