Will be assembling the door innards this weekend. The water curtains are falling apart. They seem to be made of heavy clear plastic sheet. Is that what you restorers are using?

I’ll be tackling this pretty soon as well and I’ve taken 8 doors apart so far and the plastic sheeting is very similar to what’s available today. All of mine were attached to a wooden or fiber strip which was attached to the inside ‘lip’ that the inner brush seal also mounts to. From there it runs down the inside of the door held in place by the various nuts and bolts that hold the window mechanism in place.

Found enough plastic between the two doors to use as a pattern. Should I paint then install the door innards or install the door innards then paint then install the outer and brush seals?

I have done two TR4's now and was never clever enough to figure out how to get the plastic installed around everything else in there. So I left it out.

Yes, clever is a problem for me also, hoping I can figure it out.

Sad to say I've only seen relics of it in the cars I worked on - I've always left it out and figured the weight savings was improving my car's performance!
