Out for pizza last night (Dante's in New Canaan - really good, coal-fired, like New Haven), I heard a obvious sporting car noise from New Canaan Foreign Cars next door. Mechanic Neal was working on a rear-engined, blue Renault Alpine - first I've ever seen. He was unhappy with the Dell'orto carbs. The engine was shoehorned in there - how you'd get it out of that little lid is impossible - must come out from the bottom. It was a bright French blue, beautiful finish. I didn't know these were legal over here. I had no camera so no pics. Sorry. Anyone know anything about these cars?

Any clue what year that thing was?

I dunno, Doc. I called the shop but they were closed. I'll find out tomorrow. Must be one of the older ones. The new ones are not allowed to be sold here.

I had the pleasure of seeing one at the Mid-Ohio vintage races several years back. Much, much smaller than I'd thought. Beautiful to my eye.

I love them! there is a three part series hosted by Paul Hollywood (his real name) host of the Great British Bake Off - on cars of Germany/ France/ Italy - watching him get in is a sight to behold. I also saw somewhere (maybe that show) them describe the paint as structural, the metal is so thin.

They are making this car again but with no plans to import it here. But wait. Nissan may need another sports car, and as Renault's partner, what better than to bring this thing over here as a Porsche killer.

The Alpine A110 was a sports car produced by the French manufacturer Alpine from 1961 to 1977.

Saw one displayed with some other interesting vehicles at Road America. It was either the 2017 fall vintage or the 2018 spring race.

Alpine update. Out for pizza again tonight and saw the Alpine still in there, along with an XKE. Don't know what they were doing to it. In other news, my son just bought (without telling me!) a 3-wheel Piaggio scooter. Jay Leno has a video out about it. Apparently it can hit 100 mph. I hope he knows what he's doing. (Not Leno - my son). I'll have to give him the standard M/C lecture. No wonder he wants to get rid of the Alfa.

I had a Dauphine, and I would never consider any variant of it or its successors. A boxy little Imp would be better for me, I think.

If you want to alarm your son, have him read this thread - this guy is an astonishing machinist but what he is planning for his is incredible
