Removing Wiring harness.

What is the best way to remove a wring harness? I have a cruddy harness in one car and a good one in the other. Should you label everything or just pull them both out and try and follow a diagram.
 
Not me boy, I am brave, pull it out and go for it. Give a person something to think about while trying to sleep.

I'd label both of them. Label every end, even the grounds. When, not if, there is a problem, you will be able to consult the old harness to see what the difference is.

EDIT: Let me add this... everything seems really obvious as you take it apart. You think to yourself, "I'll definitely remember this" and "This will be obvious to figure out". If you're like everyone else in this situation, you aren't as smart as you think! Especially in old cars that have been fiddled with for decades, things will NOT make sense most of the time.

Here is what I spent three hours on today and it's nowhere near making any sense. Can you imagine trying to figure out where all the yellow and red wires go? It would take days to get right and you would probably fry a couple parts in the process unless you're really good. And this car is far more simple than your MGB.

Notice the tags on every cable end.

As an added note, I would take a photo of how every component is wired. All those connectors look the same when they’re neck’d. Also make note if there are wire color changes at any bullet connectors. Exhibit A:

When I did the Tunebug I labeled every wire, and drew up diagrams for all the various connectors. I was able to use the wiring diagram to put in the new harness, but the little drawings I had made, a few pictures, and the labels on the wires were all very helpful. Bugeye's about as simple a wiring harness as you get, and I was still glad to have lots of notes on the process.
 
Same advice from here: LABELS AND PIX!

Unless the car was immediately put in a time capsule after it rolled off the line, you can't be SURE of anything. After forty years and who knows how many hands it's BOUND to have surprises. I use masking tape and a fine point "Sharpie" for tags. Looks like Steve does the same.

My biggest pet peeve with regard to fussing with wiring is oversprayed looms. That frosts me beyond tolerance. NO excuse for it. I've fired panel-beaters for that infraction. Right after they'd cleaned ALL evidence from the harness. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

And oddly neither one of 'em ever seemed to use me as a reference.

I don't see what car your talking about. Is it a T series or a B series? Don't know about a T series but a B, you just don't pull it out of the fire wall. Their put in with no fittings on them. And, it can't be said enough, LABEL, LABEL, LABEL! (With labels that don't fall off). Gee, I wonder how I know that. You'll be sooooo happy you did!
