Non Dzus stanchions. Been on there for 64 years! What is the best way to free up the hold down screws? It looks like a PO has already bodged the slots in the screw heads so it may be hard to get a large screw driver to fit there. Any ideas.

Kroil penetrating oil is my favorite.
Soak from front and under dash.Get screw driver that fits perfect even if you have to grind a large one to best fit.
Shock.Give the screw driver some sharp blows.Lastly some heat to the mounting plate under the dash.An impact driver may also help.
Good luck
Tom

No magic I know of and those things can be difficult. Good suggestions above.
If the screw slots are badly damaged, do the best you can with a dremel or die grinder to get a screwdriver to fit. One advantage of an impact driver is that the screwdrivers that came with mine were wide enough and fit the slot very well.
