removing the "capping" over the doors, etc

I think that's what it's called-- I'm in the last stages of prep before having my TR 3 painted and wondered how to get the capping off from the top of the doors, rear quarter, etc-- they're the rounded trim pieces that "cap" the perimeter of the passenger comartment.
Thanks in advance

They're held in place by the screws at the top of the door panels. For the door pieces, you'll have to loosen the brackets for the side curtains as well - one or two screws will have to come out all the way. Careful pulling them out, as they're aluminum and pretty thin (at least mine were).

On mine the dash, door and 'dogleg' or rear quarter were steel... very heavy gauge steel. The 3 rear cappings were soft aluminum. Check with a magnet if you're unsure of what's under there.

The steel pieces were a tight fit, I took a short length of wood (1x2 or a dowel or such) and put it against the edge of the piece and used a hammer on the wood to tap the capping up & off. Go slow, work in several spots. If you were not repainting then you would have confined this to the inside edge.

I think the steel pieces are usually covered in leather and will probably be an even tighter fit going back on. The aluminum pieces are typically vinyl-covered and are easily shaped and fitted.

Screw removal is as noted -- basically the door & rear quarter caps are the last interior bits removed and the first ones to go back on.
