TR6 Removing door check arm in TR6

Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to remove the door check arm in a 69 TR6? I need to remove the door for some work, and the door check is the only thing in my way. My Haynes manual says to remove a door clip, but I can not figure out what they are refering to.
Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, your first mistake is reading a Haynes manual. You really ought to get you a Bentley manual. They explain most everything in complete detail. The check strap that keeps your door from swinging wide open is held to the door by a rivit, which will need to be drilled out where the little steel strap hinges on the door. Do NOT try to remove the check strap mechanism from the door pillar. New rivits are available from TRF and only need to be dropped into place and allow gravity to hold them (mine has yet to fall out). Be prepared to have a hair transplant as you will be pulling your hair out when it comes time to replace the door, it takes many helping hands and a lot of patience.
Remember, that door will do considerable body damage to the front fender (wing) without the check strap, so hold onto it when you free up the rivit.
(Ask me how I would know this)

Kevin,

I am in agreement with Bill. My car had nails dropped in in place of the previously drilled out rivets. I had to do something else. The replacement rivets I used have a hole drilled in them for a cotter pin to prevent them from ever bouncing out (not that they ever would, but peace of mind is a good thing).

You can get a Bentley manual for the TR6 on Ebay or any of the big three British car part suppliers.

I got my Bentley manual on ebay (used) for about $15 delivered. If you want a new one they are considerably cheaper on Amazon than the parts suppliers (about $37 delivered, I think).
