Removing Axle Half Shaft [Tube Type]

Is there a secret to removing the axle half shafts on a tube type axle? I've got the Moss "removal nut" and a slide hammer and everything is removed up to the axle bearing, but she won't budge. I've tried PB Blaster and heat anround the bearing. I'm afraid to keep beating away on the thing for fear on hurting something ... does anyone have a tip??

Is the retaining screw out?
 
There's a set of bolts that retains the backing plate. I don't remember if this must be off for the axle to come out. other than that, there's no other retainer once the hub and backing plate are off that I recall.

the axles I've pulled came out pretty easily. couple of whams with the slide hammer (or bangs on the inverted brake drum before I bought the slide hammer) and out they came.
 
Backing plate does not need to be removed to pull axle.
 
Sometimes they're stubborn but the slide hammer should do it. You might try tapping the bearing retaining plate with a hammer to knock it loose. Don't damage the inner edge, of course.
