Removing an Antenna from a 79

What's the best way to remove the radio antenna from the front fender of a 79 B roadster? without having to remove the fender.

I want to install a new one and I can't get the old one out.

If it's located behind the removable splash plate, then remove the plate and reach back under the fender remove the nut holding the antenna. PJ

I had the same problem. I ended up unscrewing the mast from the base and then cutting the base off - very gingerly - with an angle grinder. I replaced it with one of the newer style that uses a toggle that can be installed from the top and then tightened without access to the underside.

BTW, if you don't know where the splashplate is... right behind the front tire inside the fender you'll see a few boltheads, and if you remove 'em, the panel comes out. CLEAN IT OUT at least once a year... you'll thank me later.

I got mine changed on an 80 B by unbolting the bottom of the fender and carefully reaching in to undo it. Good Luck

Yep, as said. Jack up front left, remove wheel. Block or use stand. Remove splash panel as described, remove antenna mounting nut (above fender). Disconnect antenna from radio, tape a strong cord or cable to plug end of old antenna wire, pull old antenna down and out from below fender, tape new antenna wire to cord/cable pull new antenna wire into car, mount new antenna, replace splashguard and plug into radio.
