TR6 Removal and Replacement of TR6 rear deck

anyone had experience removing and replacing the center section of the rear deck (the piece where the gas cap/line is)? Mine is rusted out in the corners and i found a good deal on a new old stock piece. I assume this panel is tack welded in place since I can't see any bolts.

It is just tack welded along the perimeter. Drill all of them out and you should be set. I had a similar problem but I just formed new edge pieces to replace the rusted out ends. Make sure you create some sort of guide so that the height of the rear deck is the same height in reference to the trunk.

Good luck

Brent, the deck is indeed spot welded in place. The biggest challenge is the support under the deck at the front and the rear, as well as the tab connecting to the two forward deck pieces just behind the doors. It is also welded to the inner rear fender. As previously mentioned, take measurements, and if I may suggest, use your fenders and trunk lid as a guide when you fit and tack the deck in place. You may also want to consider getting the ~$400 spot welder. While it will not reach all the weld points, it will help at the front and back will and eliminate the need to grind the plug welds.

thanks. i am fortunate to have a friend who is a professional welder and he owes me a favor for sending some work his way...he just replaced a friend's floor pans. he is a true artist. anyone needs a welder in the Nashville area shoot me an email.
