I want to put period plates on my '67. Heck I'll put them on the 74 for that matter but I am not sure how. Any ideas?

piece of cake, give me a minute, I'll link to the NY DMV forms...

Here's the low down on what plates can and can't be used:

Here's a link to the correct form and instructions. The form, and a photo of the plates, must be mailed to Albany. It takes a few weeks and then you get a registration and windshield sticker back from them with the plate number on it. Put the plates on and you're good to go. I have vintage plates on my '66 BJ8. It's really easy, it just takes a little time.

vping...screws usually work...

Iknow..I know.. does anyone ever get a straight answer around here...best bet is to go out to your states DMV website...states are different...here in NEBRASKA it's simple...get your years plates (ebay is usually a good source to locate)...not sure if your state will require correct county or not ..not here any county OK as long as year correct....take the form and plates and $$$'s into the DMV...they'll process and hand back that's it...In NE regular plates are required on front and back, Historical front and back withlimited driving club meets/parades...but if VINTAGE plates only back required...and can driven anytime..

The plates just have to be correct for the year in New York State. There are websites that describe plates for different years. The ones for 1966 started a few years before then. They were blue with yellow letters, a small reflective tag was affixed as you renewed them from year to year. The stickers are not critical, as far as I can tell. You must have a matched set of plates for 1967.

The '74 were yellow with blue letters. I have two sets of those. I bought 'em for about $25. (I have a '75 Cadillac, but have never bothered to put the plates on it, mainly because I was letting the kids drive the car daily.) You'd be welcome to one of the sets for part of what I paid plus postage.

Poke around the internet for plate descriptions, and ebay to look for matched sets. I ended up outbidding a muscle car guy for the '66 plates I have, I paid $50 plus shipping. I didn't think much of it, I was happy to have the plates.

I have the plates and they are in great shape. Believe it or not there is an "Igloo" at the dump to dispose of plates. I peeked inside to find several pair. I used a power magnet & or a bungee hook to fish them out. I have several pair now. These sell for big $$$ on ebay which is why I pulled them out. I have a nice pair for the GT and the Roadster. The other thing I am not sure about is for the TD.

A. I don't have a plate.
B. Read somewhere these are difficult to register.
C. I still don't have a plate.

Hmmm....Screws. I'll have to try that /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Magnet fishing in an igloo at the dump. Why didn't I think of that? I paid good money for my 1964 plates!
