Red Top?

Hello All!

My Heritage Certificate indicates that my car was equipped with a black top originaly; however, the current top, tonneau, and side curtains all are red. I don't believe that these were ever replaced after the car was purchased. My father purchased the car used in '55 or '56 and drove it until it was parked in '61.

I suppose anything is possible, but do you think Heritage has it wrong? Could it have been changed and not documented prior to leaving the factory, or changed by the dealer? Has anyone run across this kind of thing in the past?

At first I was going to get a black top, but the more I look at the old red one the more I like it. Body is black with red interior and trim. You don't see very many black hundreds with a red top, opinions please.

Best to All!

Me some day ---->

Adam,
My info shows black exterior, red interior & seat piping, red carpet, & black top with a note that the hood (top) could possibly be red. The Heritage records have been known to have errors & there is some evidence for a red top. As far as correctness goes, a red top would be ok. No one could ever prove that it was wrong.

I personally think that the red top would look very good on your car. Better than black, especially with the rest of the red interior. Since it is a keepsake don't change it. ------Go for it --

I agree with Dave, use the red top and tonneau, your Dad liked it and so will you. Good Luck with your restoration, and of course if you need help contact un on BCF. How about some photo's to update your progress?

Red it is! The car is a keepsake and the more I think about it the more I'd like to keep things the same as the car has always been. Anyway, the red is growing on me and I agree it will look nice with black paint and red interior.

Pictures to come when its looking more presentable.

Best Regards!

My first heritage certificate said the my BN4 was a two seater. After reexamining my car I decided that the back seats in the car were probably original.

I let them know and they sent me a corrected cert free of charge.

Thanks Patton!

I do believe that my red bits are original. I'll let Heritage know and maybe they will issue a new certificate.

Best regards!

I didn't know Heritage would re-issue a certificate. I originally had the wrong ID on my car from the previous owner. Their reply was included in the certificate and raises questions. I hesitated to reapply due to the cost and redundancy. Thanks for the reminder.
