Red Taillights

I was looking through the Sprite and Midget Restorers Guide and I noticed that none of the Spridgets in there have all red taillights like my car. So I looked in the catalogs and it looks like they don't sell them either.

Are all red lenses from some other MG, or are the ones I have an accessory no longer available?

I'm not sure about Midgets. However, I remember that the early MGBs (1964 and earlier?) had all red lamps in the rear. If you're car is a '69 I would think it should have the red/amber lenses. Perhaps your lamps are from an earlier Midgets or MGB.

In the guide it showed all models of sprites and midgets with multicolor taillights, the ones on my car must be from an MGB.

I discussed this with a co-worker of mine who has a '62(ish) Spridget. He says his has all red tail lights. However, he doesn't know how many previous owners the car has had or its history.

After posting my first reply I went Googling and 90% or more of the pictures I found for MGBs or Midgets (if you could see their tail lights at all) had amber/red lenses. Upon further discussion with my co-worker, both of us only remember their being two-tone lenses for sale since we were kids. Hopefully someone with specific knowledge will post soon and give you a definitive answer. All I can offer is hearsay and my recollection about other cars of the period. Sorry.

Amber tail lamps (turn signals) were standard in Europe from the early 60s. No so in the USA. So cars on this side of the pond came with all red tail lamps.
Both the red and amber uppers were made by Lucas.
This is why the 61-70 lenes are in 2 pieces. Quick change for country specs.

Thanks. I now understand why the pictures of European cars all had amber/red lenses.

If you need some, PM me and I might be able to dig some up in the garage maybe some NOS sets and sell them to you.
