Red Rat-now driveable

My 948 cc RWA Midget is now running and driveable.

I built it from a parts car that I bought cheap just for the 1275 engine (which is going in my A35 racer).
It seemed a shame to cut it up, but it's really just a pile of unwanted bits and pieces. Such as a stock 948 saloon engine (35 HP), a crappy ribcage trans (weak 2nd gear syncro), some moth-eaten seats, a <span style="text-decoration: underline">very</span> unwanted DGV carb, a muffler that didn't fit the racecar (for Lime Rock), a top I've been storing for 20 years, a steering wheel I found on junk day, some skinny spare wheels and so forth.

Tractor Supply paint was applied using several methods.........none of them the <span style="font-style: italic">correct</span> way.

It's a 20-footer, but runs quite nice (I've driven it around the neighborhood).

Still working on front bumper, some wiring, carpets, trunk hinge, etc.

I have a fair amount of sweat-equity in it....but very little cash outlay.

That's my kind of car! Is there much body filler in it, or is it pretty much all metal?

Boy! a RWA 948! It MUST be a Bugeye
That really does look good (from 20 feet), keep up the good work.

It's solid. I put a little filler in one of the front fenders, plus some to fill in the <span style="font-style: italic">MIDGET</span> letter holes in the rockers, but that's about it. It's really more solid than my race car.

There's still lots of details I need to get to (<span style="text-decoration: underline">really</span> needs shock oil) but nothing real difficult or expensive.

By the way, this 948 engine has a fair amount of track time at Watkins Glen in my race car.
I used it as an emergency spare engine.
You can read about it HERE (scroll down a bit on the page)

Looks awesome, I like red.

Pretty. Very nice.

Looks a lot more valuable than the "scrap" it was built from!! Nice work.

Kurt.

Well done -- the ultimate minimalist sports car. Well, at least the ultimate (slow) sports car.

What's the plan for it?

Not sure. It's really just an accidental car in terms of ownership.
I drove my MGB roughly 1000 miles last year.
Maybe I'll park this next to it and drive them each 500 miles in '12.

Both of my daughter's have expressed some interest in borrowing the MGB, so I may drive this more if that happens.

And one of my brothers has ~This~ Midget that has carb/wiring/ignition issues. I may lend him this one for the Summer and get his sorted out.
