after putting a bulb in it today, the red light next to the blue light suddenly works!
it comes on when i turn on the key for starting...
its dim at idle but glows brite when revved up....
is this normal or totally the opposite?
i forget...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ive learned way too much lately...
but my motor sounds sweeet...if only i had clutch hydrolics id go for a ride /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

sould NOT be lit once the altenator is charging.

yes, red light should be on at switch to ign position, off or dimming at idle (depending on idle speed) and off when rev'ed

That is supposed to tell you the generator/alternator isn't working. Use a volt meter on the battery poles to check for voltage increase when the engine is rev'ed. It should be more than 13 volts. If it doesn't change and stays around 12 volts the Alt/gen is not working. The light is supposed to go out.

go figure... changed everything, but the alternator!
my alt has 1 brown wire connected and a smaller wire from the coil plugged in....
it looks like there used to b 2 brown maybe.i dunno...
ill go test as suggested but im not positive its hooked in correctly.....take it in for testing maybe ; )(oreillys)
ps.. i have a new battery

Try here, might be some useful information in it. The light is triggered by a voltage differential between your battery and the alternator. The circuit with the light is where the alternator senses it's control voltage. Something is definitely screwy but if you say the alternator is putting out then I would pull it and have it tested. What every you do don't disconnect the battery with the engine running. Really bad for your alternator. Anyway, here is the link to when I had a similar problem with lots of information.
