Recovering Dash Support

I'm in the process or putting a new interior in my '73 TR6. I bought the replacement cover for the dash support from TRF and am getting ready to install it. Due to the high price of this part, I'd like to get it right the first time.

The instructions say that gluing the cover on can make it difficult to "index" the foam pad correctly and that it can alternatively be taped on. Taping it seems a little iffy so I'd like to glue it on. It seems to fit on the casting really nicely and I think I could glue it on progressively starting from the shift lever hole and working out from there. Could anyone who has done this provide some tips regarding adhesives and procedures?

Thanks!
Ken
