Have you considered new bumpers Tony? I'll bet it would cost about the same or less. VW Beetles have the best classic car aftermarket support system... MGB's are second to that.
Yep, Kenny - I called West Coast Metric to order all new rubber...they told me not to waste my time with aftermarket bumpers...that they would bubble in less than a year (same with headlight trim rings)....only way they'd recommend replacing them is if I can find NOS.
Many of the VW suppliers had 2 levels of bumpers-- the Brazilian cheapies and a better, sometimes German bumper. If I remember the better ones were still pretty inexpensive so might check those if the plating costs exceed about $100 and/or "hassle index" involved exceeds what you want to deal with. I have a decent later style bumper(after '67) in my basement that would be free but it's not completely perfect and it would probably cost a bunch to ship it.
