Hi,

I am am going to have my 6 engine out and to the machine shop this week.

Wondering what advise and tips anyone may have for me. Any new parts to be aware of, any tricks. I want a good solid leak free motor. I did this 15 years ago but don't remember all I need to do. I hope it comes back to me I have the factory workshop manual and the Haynes manual.

Are there there any members in the Green Bay Area?

Any help, advise appreciated.

Thanks,
Perry

Perry, after you have it tanked, use carb cleaner and air to clean out all the oil chambers in the block and head. Not all places blow these out when it first comes out and lots of junk in there. Take all the freeze plugs out before hand and put new ones in after, now you have a clean water jacket.

Thanks for the responses. I need to contact Ed as he is going through it now. Is there any supplier that has a great deal on cams, tappets, and the more expensive items? Also, any suggestions on parts suppliers?

Moss has a 30% sale on engine parts now. You may want to think through what you actually want to buy, and if that is what Moss is selling. Also, are you going to raise compression/adjust CAM while you are at it?

These may not have been around 15 years ago, so consider using them now.
If the shop is doing the assembly, you may have to be the middle man, obtaining the end float measurement and relaying that information to Scott Helms.

:iagree: That's what I did. Scott is very accommodating to make the sizes for your specs.

At the shop now. I did see the moss sale. I may need a cam as two lifters I looked at had galling on the bottom. Hope the bores are good. Will replace the oil pump and water pump. All bearings, seals and gaskets. Will find out what it needs next week.
