Rebuilding stromberg Carbs Throttle Shaft Bushings

I recently acquired a set of Stromberg 175CDs for a TR4A off of E-bay, got them cheap, they are actually better than I expected, the diaphragms were even intact (though stiff and dry, will be replaced) and everything is there and moves as it should, but the throttle shafts are worn and I want to fix this problem.

I notice they have bushings, it is not just bored through the carb body, I made some tentative efforts to pull them, but no luck so far, moss offers replacement bushes, does anybody know if this is the same part as stock just press in? or were these carbs already rebuilt once and that is why I have bushings (I am guessing no, they are awfully worn).

Usually it's the shafts that wear the most since the metal is softer and just replacing those is all that's necessary. See if there's still wobble with new shafts.

I ordered shafts and bushings both, so I will fit the new shafts and see if that is all that is needed, there is appreciable wear to the shafts, but the fit is still a little loose when I slide it over to the part of the shaft that is not worn.

I also asked Moss the same question I posted above, no answer yet.

Don't loose your patience with me.. but the throttle shaft seal and shaft might be all you need to replace. If the metal bushing needs replacement, I believe I'd sent it to someone who's done it before who can make sure the new insert is squarely installed.

That is good advice Ken. Very easy to create an unintended issue with the cast housing(s) if you've never done it before.

The older carbs don't have a seal like the later, ones, yes, I don't want to muck up the thing by amatuer drilling or reaming, that is why I was wondering if the bush is basically a pull out press in item, the 4a carbs are a little different animal than the later strombergs on the TR250/6.

I should be able to tell more when the new bushes and shafts arrive.
