Rebuilding Handbrakes

Hello

I am contemplating disassebling my TR4 handbrake to get it rechromed. The chrome isn't that bad although the button is chipped. I am a little concerned that once I remove the pin that holds the pawl in place, the whole thing will spring apart and I will not be able to get it back together again. Can someone let me know how easy/difficult it is to rebuild one of these handbrakes? Also, I know prices vary significantly but what is the ballpark cost to get a handbrake rechromed?

Thanks for your help.

Myles

Not too difficult but patience and observation of part location and direction is important. Pictures might help.
I replaced internal parts in mine because I am ignorant of the operation of the unit and thought mine was broken.
Anyway, I think you will have no problems.

Myles, I got mine replated I think the cost was around $60.
Should have quite a few shops in the Houston area, look for one that does custom work not production work. Two different animals. By the way I lived there for 23 years. Still have 4 boys living there, I got my BBA from UofH.

Thanks for your advice. Handbrake is now dismantled. Next step is to take it off to the platers to see how much they will fleece me for...
