TR6 Rebuilding Distributor

Hi all,

Relatively new mechanic here. I recently inherited my late father's 76 TR6 and want to get it back on the road. In the process of getting it started I have rebuilt the carbs, and now want to start on the distributor. I believe that a rebuild is in order so I ordered a rebuild kit from Moss. I have also ordered a pertronix electrical ignition (LU 166A). I don't know electrical stuff much at all so I feel a bit intimidated and I've struggled to find easy simple step type advice on how to proceed. I also believe the lucas coil is probably done for as well so I think that I need to order a new one. My questions for you experts are thus:

How can I figure out which exact coil to buy? Looking online and there are so many different ones that have all sorts of different specs. I bought a voltmeter but don't know how to really use it to check.

Are there any good guides out there for rebuilding distributors when I have all the replacement parts? I followed some easy guides for the carbs and would love something similar for the dizzy.

Thanks!

Do you have a shop manual? Brooklands republishes most (if not all) of them. The TR4/4A one is a little spotty, but still essential. In any case, it will have all the specs you need.

Don't be intimidated by electricity. This is your chance to learn about it, as long as you are open to finding out stuff. You really don't need to know more than I did when I was 10 years old; the rest is just logic.

Just what is included in the distributor rebuild kit from Moss ?
If you don't know the names, can you post a picture ?
As far as the coil...the 76 was sent from the factory with a 1.5 ohm coil..but some owners bypassed the resistor and went with a 3.0 ohm coil....
The Pertronix Ignitor LU166A works best with the resistor bypassed
I think you are going to need this.
