Need a block; another engine for rebuild; a link
to TRF with where to purchase rebuilt;.......

Need more money.....

Need psychiatrist....

Valium....

and not necessaily in that order.

Here's a link to The Roadster Factory. Give them a call monday morning. I didn't scobe around on there site to see what they have, but you might want to do that.

Edit: Take the valium first. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Or a couple of beers. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thirsty.gif Sorry to here about this. Do you have any idea what caused it??

Art,

The pic wasn't very clear, but I would have thought that the seat dropped out, holding the valve open. When I looked at the picture though, it looks like its there.

Without seeing the other pistons it's hard to tell if detonation or carbon hot spots created a crack in the top of the piston and then it started to break up.

Or, the valve may have seized in the guide and the piston hit it and disintegrated.

Autopsy films at 11:00.

Hmmmm. Did you ever notice that the first four letters of "autopsy" are a-u-t-o ????

Bummer, 2wrench. Sorry to hear about it. I'd go with the valium cause it must have been quite a shock when you opened that rascal up.

Good luck which ever way you go!

I have no idea what might have caused the
demolision. Just for sake of discussion, I do intend
to post more pics. My first attempt was poor, at best.
I'm looking to get a more user friendly software
for picture posts. Reread the threads, etc. on the subject.
A lot on my plate right now, but do want all the guestimates; speculation and WAG's as to what happened.

Like was this thing just old and tired? I did start
putting a lot of Lucas Oil Treatment to thwart off
oil burning. Is it possible to put in too much of the
stuff? I dunno. What I think I do know? I'm in the
market for an engine and/or a block. Anybody have;
see or know of something, let me know.

The original failure was obviously the dropped valve head, IMO. Not sure what would have caused that, but I doubt "old and tired" is the explanation, nor the Lucas oil treatment unless perhaps it was causing the valve to stick or something. Might simply have been a defective valve, or sometimes running with the mixture too lean at cruise can cause valve stem erosion.

You have other options. Cylinder sleeves, with the stock bore are available for you car. TRF lists them in their parts database. $35 ea. They also list a bare block, short blocks, whole engines. Give them a call.

But then, there is the concern about the head, I would also wonder about the crank, cam,....I got a headache.

What a nightmare. My sympathy.

Oh, I remember there once was a place near you that restored TR's and was a Moss distribitor. Can't recall the name or if they are still in business, but they had a lot of parts cars....

Good luck

I think old timer is referring to "Triumphs Only" over in Stockton. Wayne runs (or used to) run the place. He does have a lot of parts and part cars.
