Rebound straps and electronic ignition

When my former mechanic was working on my suspension (1974.5 MGB), he put on new rebound straps. However, both straps have already broken (I've barely driven the car at all).

I'm wondering what the difference is between the straps for the chrome bumper cars (Moss part #267-565) and the straps for the rubber bumper cars (Moss part #267-615).

Specifically, I'm wondering if the rubber bumper ones are longer. If so, he probably put the wrong ones on and that's why they broke.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Also, does anyone have any advice regarding what type of electronic ignition to put in a 1974.5 MGB?

Yes...the rubber bumper rebound straps are indeed longer than the ones used on a chrome bumper MGB. Additionally, there have been numerous reports of early failure on "new" rebound straps sourced from any of the regular suppliers.

Might I suggest that you contact Rusty Koester of Strapping Lad Suspension. He make a nice quality nylon strap for either the chrome or rubber bumpered MGB. I have them installed on my 1974-1/2 MGB/GT and have already purchased same for each of my MGCs and my MGB tourer.

See: https://brokenheartstudio.googlepages.com/heavydutyaxlestraps for more infomation. The straps pictured on his website are of the install of his straps on my GT.

I also suggest that you contact Jeff Schlemmer regarding your distributor needs. See: https://www.advanceddistributors.com/ Jeff knows his stuff!
