Rebound strap/rear axle problem

Hey folks,

So was out in the garage today doing some work on the car and decided that while some paint was drying I'd install the new rebound straps I bought...

Well, just my luck I ended up snapping most of the threads off of the lower stud on the driver's side where the strap connects to the axle. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix it? I took a look at a spare axle in my garage (from a '62 Sprite), and it looks like the stud is welded in place to the axle...brilliant...

Thanks!

Cut it off and weld another one in its place?

It snapped. As I was loosening the bolt, it got caught on all the rust as I was backing it off and it just snapped clean off. There's maybe an 1/8th of an inch of thread left on the stud...

I wish I knew someone who welded...or someone local that's selling a rear end. It'd honestly be easier to replace...I'm going to be doing the suspension and the bushing soon anyway, so it all has to come apart one way or the other...

or as has been mentioned a muffler shop - tuesday about 3 pm - they'll be bored
