Reassembling the front and rear rubber bumpers

Okay, so I just picked up the 79 LE from the paint shop. She looks gorgous in her new coat of Black. However the paint guy removed the front and rear bumpers (not a problem) in order to make for a good job. The only thing is now I have these bumper parts and don't know how to reassemble them and the paint guy forgot how to reassemble as well.

Does anyone have a drawing/schematic of how the bumpers go back into place? You know what backing plate goes where and the like?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PS My GT project is now at the paint shop. Body work is done and she's going to get a new coat of Mineral Blue. Oooooo, I can't wait to get her back. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

I don't have it handy but I think the Haynes manual has a good breakdown of the way it goes together.
Or was that my TR7 Haynes??

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

Look at the VB and Moss catalogs. I use them all the time to see how things come apart and go back together.

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

I looked at the Moss catalog but they don't show the spacer plates, I guess they don't sell those.

I'll keep looking.

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

If I remember right its 3 spacer plates per side for the front. I dont remember any for the rear.

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

69MGC,
I'm a little disapointed. I was hoping this thread would be going into replacing "Rubber Bumpers" with chrome bumpers. Been thinking about doing that with 74.5 B. Oh Well, When I get to that point I'll look more into it.
I pulled mine and don't think it'll be much of a problem putting back on.
Good Luck,
Tom

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

I have a 77B torn down nad am going to do a chrome bumper conversion since its stripped. I'm going to keep it or maybe give it to my little sister in New York..gotta give her one as two years ago Christmas I gave my older sister a nice 70 Midget..shes about five foot two so the Midget was a paerfect fit.

Re: Replacing the front and rear rubber bumpers

Tom

I already have three other chrome bumper B's. The LE I have would be better served if it stayed with the original bumper style.

Good luck on your conversion.

I guess I should have made the thread title a little more clear.

No problem. I was reading into it what I wanted.

I removed front and rear bumpers for painting body parts. I had no trouble just using Haynes and common sense to remove and re-install them. Why in the world did your painter diassemble them? At any rate, any competent mechanic )and a few incompetents) should be able to rebuild them and re-install them with a bit of help from Haynes and Moss or VB.

Just my opinion,

Guinn

I belive the factory used however many spacers were need to set the spacing between the body and bumper.

Kev,

You and I are headed in opposite directions but at the same point with the front bumper. I'm just taking mine off! Here are pics of removing the spacers. Let me know if you need more. First pic shows the spacer that goes closest to the engine bay. The pic in the next post is of the 2 spacers closest to the bumper. These show the orientation for the drivers side.

Thanks Tim for the pics. This helps. You don't happen to have any shots of the rear bumper assembly order do you?

Sorry, I don't have pics of the rear one since I'm not taking that one off. I could take some of the assembled bumper but that would not likely serve your purposes?

Tim

Tom could you take a shot of the inside of your trunk where the bumper bolts come though so I can match up the parts I have with the way it looks in your car?

Thanks much.

Hopefully Tom won't mind me butting on the reply but here is a pic of the trunk. Is this what you are looking for? Excuse the..dust /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
